Nébih identifies ASP virus in new wild boars
The National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) has confirmed new cases of African swine fever (ASP) in Baranya County. Laboratory tests detected the virus in samples taken from dead wild boars on the outskirts of the Tésenfa settlement, a few tens of meters from the Croatian border. Preventing the spread of the disease to domestic pigs remains of paramount importance, and the basic condition for this is full compliance with disease control regulations by animal keepers.

The infected individuals were found in the ASP-infected area of Baranya County. The infection may have spread from Croatia through the natural spread of ASP in wild boars. Following the confirmation of the cases, the authority declared three additional game management units infected, while reclassified the areas of five game management units to the high-risk category.
It is important to emphasize that African swine fever is not dangerous to humans
Its importance is due to the economic damage it causes, which results from the culling of diseased animals and trade restrictions. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to prevent the further spread of the epidemic to domestic pigs, for which it is essential for livestock keepers to fully comply with the disease control regulations. The authority asks livestock keepers to notify the veterinary service within 24 hours if they notice sudden fever, death, or bleeding symptoms in their pig herd!
