Two days before the end of the financial year, Tesco opened another store, this time in Budapest’s 14th district, on Egressy Street. The Expressz store offers more than 4,000 products, including an expanded range of non-perishable food, locally baked pastries, daily fresh meats, and a premium sandwich and soft drink selection to local residents and guests of the nearby spa. The store, which operates with a staff of 10, provides fast home delivery services via Foodora and Wolton, and in partnership with the Myrai Vallási Közhasznú Egyesület, donates leftover food that is still perfectly fit for human consumption to the needy in the area.

Tesco opened its fifth store in Zugló, and also its 27th Express store in Budapest, on February 26, 2026, just two days before the end of the 2025/26 financial year. The store at Egressy út 135 offers more than 4,000 products, including about 100 types of newspapers and magazines. The range includes a wide range of non-perishable foods, locally baked goods, a varied selection of vegetables and meats with fresh cod and poultry products arriving daily, as well as machine-made coffee, premium sandwiches and soft drinks. Products from Hungarian sources are marked with a separate shelf label, so that buyers of domestic products can easily find their favorite items.

A choice tailored to local needs

“It’s been exactly one year since we opened our Pozsonyi út store in the 13th district, and now the Tesco network is expanding with another convenience store, which is now our 36th store in Budapest. This is a truly worthy and symbolic end to the financial year, during which we were able to hand over three new Expressz stores and renovate several others. We are confident that the people living in the area will love the new shopping center, which also functions as a community meeting point, complete with a pastry shop, ice cream parlor and parcel vending machines in the building block. At the same time, we also count on visitors to the nearby spa and beach bath, to whom we primarily offer ready-to-eat products available near the checkouts – including sandwiches, chilled soft drinks and sliced sweets. We are constantly reviewing the selection, and we are waiting for feedback from our customers so that we can tailor the product range to their needs and improve the customer experience”
– said Zsolt Pálinkás, CEO of TESCO-GLOBAL Zrt.

Egressy Expressz awaits customers with a team of 10 people, a quality selection and regular discounts and loyalty points. Wireless headphones help ensure efficient communication between colleagues and quick customer service. Two traditional and two self-service checkouts ensure the most convenient shopping. Furthermore, for four weeks following the opening, every purchase exceeding 5 thousand forints will receive a 500 forint discount, which can be used with weekly coupons distributed in the area and on site at the opening location and then available in the store. Details of the promotion can be found on the relevant flyers.

Pleasant, comfortable, community-friendly

The high-quality operation of the Expressz store is ensured by new mirelit cabinets and refrigerators, a bakery section, and a modern cash register and camera system. Natural light from outside plays a major role thanks to the glass facade, which harmonizes well with the modern and clean store interior, where practical marketing elements and spectacular signs help you navigate while shopping.

The store’s solar panel system supports energy production and environmentally friendly operation, and Tesco provides remote shopping opportunities through Wolt and Foodora couriers, who deliver orders to homes in the area. In addition, Tesco strives to provide more every day not only to its customers, but also to the communities where its stores operate and its customers and employees live.

“We have included our new store in Zugló in our national food rescue program from day one, and through the Food Bank partner organization, we donate unsold food to charity. At the end of the day, the remaining items that are still perfectly suitable for human consumption are collected by our colleagues and donated to the Myrai Vallási Közhasznú Egyesület, which distributes them to the homeless, people living in extreme poverty and other people in need in the area. In the 2025/26 financial year, we rescued 56 thousand kilograms of food from our stores in the 14th district. This amount will certainly increase next year with the entry of Egressy Expressz “It will be possible, so we can provide even more support to the disadvantaged members of the local community,” added Zsolt Pálinkás.
