Aldi Spain Plans December Expansion Spree To Cap Off Busy 2023
Discounter Aldi plans to conclude 2023 with a bang, expanding its Spanish network to more than 430 outlets.
The discounter plans to open ten new stores across Spain in December, according to Spanish daily El Economista.
This surge of openings will focus on areas in which Aldi already has a strong presence, such as Madrid, Andalusia, and Catalonia. Additionally, Aldi will reinforce its presence in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
Aldi’s expansion is in line with its aggressive growth strategy in Spain, where it opened nearly 100 new stores in the past three years, averaging 40 annual openings in 2021 and 2022.
The discounter has grown the number of its customers in Spain by 27% in three years, with some seven million families regularly shopping at Aldi every week.
According to data from Kantar, 45% of consumers now consider Aldi their go-to store for discounted groceries, marking a 37% increase from just three years ago.
Elsewhere, the data showed that 773,000 new consumers have commenced shopping at Aldi in the period from September 2022 to September 2023.
Since 2020, Aldi has successfully increased its household penetration by 26% and has witnessed a 30% rise in the frequency of purchasing trips among its loyal customers.
