New restrictions and measures are coming to curb the foot-and-mouth disease virus, experts are working with all possible means to stop the disease – the Minister of Agriculture announced in his video message on Thursday.

István Nagy announced on his social media page that the transport of even-toed ungulates arriving from abroad will be banned in Győr-Moson-Sopron County. In the current animal health situation, disinfection is of paramount importance, therefore the designated disinfection points will be reinforced, and the chemicals necessary for sterilization will be provided free of charge to small farms. Furthermore, all animal exhibitions, demonstrations and fairs in the region will be banned, meaning that the Komárom International Dog Show cannot be held either.
The Minister added that the disease is present in four livestock farms, these have been closed together with their area, and the animals are being slaughtered
The spread of the disease is being continuously investigated, susceptible herds are being checked, disinfection points are being designated on the M1 motorway and at the border with the help of uniformed personnel. The Minister of Agriculture asks everyone to adhere to strict epidemic control measures. The virus can only be defeated through joint efforts, experts are working to ensure that all animals are safe – István Nagy emphasized.
