The Mátraszentistván Ski Park will be expanded with new slopes and lifts this year
The Mátraszentistván Ski Park will be expanded this year with a new four-seater lift and new ski slopes, with an investment of approximately 1.5 billion forints – said Bence György, the ski park’s communications consultant, at a press tour of the ski park on Tuesday.
He added: the elements of the new lift have already arrived from Austria, and the investment will be completed by the end of the year, subject to the issuance of the necessary permits.
The ski park, which is 21 years old this year, is continuously developing, and the investments are planned for 2021, according to the government’s They will be implemented based on the Mátra Region Active Tourism Strategy, from their own resources, he said.
The ski park is 100 percent Hungarian family-owned and consciously focuses on families, ski instruction, and the education of young people in competitive sports.
A one and a half kilometer family ski slope, which is exceptionally long in the Hungarian mountains, will be created with an exciting trail, the ski instruction area will be doubled, and sledding enthusiasts will also be offered a new opportunity. The alpine playground will be ready by summer, with surprise experience elements and a mountain bike trail will be created
– he explained.
According to his information, the conversion of the ski center to a four-season resort will begin in parallel with the already started development, so the tourist season, which is currently limited to winter and lasts an average of 2.5-3 months, can be increased to 10 months in the Upper Mátra. The capacity of the water reservoir will also be expanded, so that excess rainwater generated during heavy rain will be stored in the reservoirs – the consultant detailed the developments.
Benedek Kalcsó, the technical manager of the ski resort, informed that 15 new snow cannons were purchased at the beginning of this season, so with 46 snow cannons they are now able to cover the slopes on an area of 10 hectares with snow in 3-4 days, in favorable weather conditions of at least minus 2.5 degrees. Water is used for the snow cannons from four reservoirs, which form a closed system, and the melted snow is collected and pumped back into the system, he explained.
On the occasion of International Ski Patrol Day on February 10, the Mátraszentistváni Ski Park and its strategic partner, Helly Hansen, jointly recognized the professionals responsible for the safety of the ski slopes: the Kékes Research and Rescue Service and the ski park’s slope service staff received the recognition of “the guardian angels of the mountains.”
Edit Rápolthy, the ski park’s PR manager, highlighted that the professionalism of the professional staff was needed more than ever this season, because the facility held one of the busiest Januarys in its history this year. By the end of January, more than 25,000 people had purchased tickets to the Mátraszentistván Ski Park, which indicates the strengthening of domestic ski tourism – said Edit Rápolthy. She added that the season will continue at full capacity in February. Thanks to the cold nights and continuous snow cannoning, the thickness of the snow layer is stably 30-50 centimeters, 9 ski lifts operate on the slopes, and 3.3 kilometers of ski slopes are available for skiing.
The background of the Ski Park is provided by a 100 percent domestically owned family company, DIGITROLL Kft., founded in 1992. The company, which manufactures its own agroelectronic instruments, is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of crop control. The founder, Imre Kőrösi, built the first ski lift in 1987. The company has been developing a well-structured, proven sustainable ski slope system since 2002. They currently employ 12 permanent employees and more than 100 seasonal tourism workers.
