Another Miyawaki forest will make IX. district courtesy of Zwack Unicum
This Christmas, it’s not just the pine that takes center stage: Zwack Unicum is continuing its last year’s project by planting a Miyawaki mini-forest with 240 indigenous and resistant species of trees and shrubs in collaboration with FőKERT Nonprofit Zrt. and the 10 million Fa Foundation. The unique, fast-growing, dense plant community on the Nehru coast, in the neighborhood of Bálna, serves the well-being of city residents, among other things, by filtering polluted air and creating an aesthetic, green environment in an urban environment.
Zwack Unicum is committed to greening the city and aims to lead by example. This is how the cooperation of the second Miyawaki mini-forest planter was established – in April last year, a green “mini-lung” of native plant species was created on Boráros Square with the company’s support. The company believes that by planting native trees and shrubs, biodiversity also plays a role, in addition to the fact that the forest can function as an oasis in the noisy and busy part of the city.
The Miyawaki mini-forest, named after the recently deceased Japanese botanist and plant ecologist Miyawaki Akira, provides shade, cools, humidifies, binds dust, captures precipitation and has air filtering capabilities. Over the course of 20-30 years, the cumulatively effective urban green surface can capture industrial amounts of carbon dioxide, it also provides a habitat for vital insects and other living creatures, and last but not least, it increases the quality of life with the soothing effect of being close to nature.
