Aldi Suisse Sets New Sugar Reduction Targets
Aldi Suisse has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing sugar in its products by renewing the so called ‘Milan Declaration’, alongside 20 other Swiss food companies.
This voluntary commitment, which has been in effect for a decade, aims to gradually decrease the sugar content in processed food and beverages and has already shown measurable success across all sectors.
New, more ambitious reduction targets have been set for the food industry and the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) to achieve by the end of 2028.
These targets include a further 10% reduction of added sugar in soft drinks, quark, breakfast cereals, and milk-based drinks, and a 5% reduction in yogurt.
Since the inception of the declaration, Aldi Suisse has reduced sugar in several product categories, exceeding initial targets with a 31% reduction in quark, 24% in breakfast cereals, and 19% in yoghurt.
Dairy-based drinks have also seen a promising 9% reduction.

The declaration now involves 21 food, beverage, and retail companies focused on reducing sugar in yoghurt, quark, breakfast cereals, dairy drinks, and soft drinks.
Country managing director of Aldi Suisse, Jérôme Meyer, commented, “We are proud to
