New steps against bird flu

The national chief veterinarian has extended the ban on the introduction and movement of waterfowl poultry to the entire area of Bács-Kiskun county and to the entire area of several Csongrád-Csanád county districts, writes agrarszektor.hu. The only exceptions to this requirement are transport for immediate slaughter. The aim of the measure is to prevent the further rapid spread of the avian influenza epidemic, thereby reducing the economic damage to the poultry sector.

Further tightening decided by veterinarian

In recent days, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) virus in an increasing area of Bács-Kiskun County and in more than ten farms. In addition to the movement ban in force in the protection and surveillance zone for all poultry species, the national chief veterinarian has decided on further tightening to prevent further rapid spread of the epidemic, according to Nébih.
