Highly pathogenic bird flu was identified in two more counties
This time, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) confirmed the presence of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus in the counties of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Bács-Kiskun. The competent authorities have started to liquidate the affected herds and have also designated protection and surveillance districts.
The breeder suspected avian flu in the breeding goose flock in Tiszabábolna, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, due to the increased mortality, the lethargy of the animals, and the decrease in feed and water consumption. The Nébih laboratory identified the presence of the H5N1 subtype of bird flu. The authority took action in connection with the liquidation of the herd, which numbered around 6,000 animals. A protective zone with a radius of 3 km was designated around the affected farm, and a surveillance (observation) zone with a radius of 10 km was defined.
In Petőfiszállás, Bács-Kiskun county, the Nébih laboratory detected bird flu infection from the mandatory swab sample before slaughter
After that, the death rate in the mallard duck population increased the next day and the animals became lethargic. The liquidation of the herd, numbering roughly 7,100 animals, will begin tomorrow. A protective zone with a radius of 3 km was also designated around the affected farm, and a surveillance (observation) zone was defined.
