The Nébih laboratory has detected Grapevine flavescence doré (FD), which causes grape golden yellow disease, in both the Balatonfüred-Csopak and Eger wine regions. The pathogen is already present in 17 out of 22 wine regions. The National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) asks producers to continuously monitor their plantations and comply with plant protection regulations. Report any suspicion of the disease to the authorities immediately.

Due to the risk posed by grape golden yellow disease, the Government has ordered intensive reconnaissance. As a result of the increased investigation and responsible producer behavior, the authority has identified the presence of the disease in two more wine regions. Laboratory tests have detected the phytoplasma in the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region (Balatoncsicsó, Csopak, Szentjakabfa) on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, and – based on a public report – in the Eger wine region.

The regionally competent authorities, i.e. experts from government agencies, have started plant health measures at both locations

A 1 km radius infected area has been established around the affected plantations, within which all plants will be examined. In the case of plants showing symptoms within the infected area, the authority will order their destruction. In addition, the distribution and transport of grape propagating material from the affected area is prohibited. Intensive reconnaissance and a mandatory control program will come into effect in a further 3 km radius buffer zone around the infection.

Nébih once again draws the attention of all vineyard owners to the paramount importance of preventive control

Stopping and eradicating the spread of the disease is only possible by using controlled, healthy propagating material and regular control against the spreading vector, the American grapevine cicada. It is also crucial that any suspicion of the disease is reported immediately to the plant health inspector of the regionally competent county government office and to Nébih.
