Another significant support for tourism
After the previous 6-point package of measures, the government is supporting tourism, which is considered the driving force of the economy, with new support. From 23.12.2022, the Energy Cost and Investment Support Program for Manufacturing SMEs, previously announced with a HUF 150 billion budget, is also available for tourism service providers. Pursuant to the decision, nearly 21,000 accommodation providers and catering operators can receive help to reduce overhead costs that have increased due to the energy crisis.
Based on the proposal of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, the government decided to extend the manufacturing program to the tourism sector. About 16,000 catering units and 4,500 accommodations can therefore apply for the support program. The repeated package of measures affecting the sector contributes significantly to the preservation of the stability of tourism micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as to the retention of the workforce. The enterprises operating the affected catering units and accommodation employ 70-80% of the employees of the two sectors, around 80-100 thousand people. Keeping them on track is in the fundamental interest of the sector, as well-educated, highly experienced employees are essential for the development of tourism, which is the driving force of the economy, as well as for long-term stability.
