Bird flu was detected in another settlement in the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county
This time, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) detected the presence of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus in an area of the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok that had not been affected before.
The stock is currently being liquidated. In the pheasant colony of approximately 7,000 in the Abádszalók settlement of the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, the livestock keeper suspected bird flu because of the animals’ lack of appetite, nervous system symptoms, and increased mortality.
The Nébih laboratory confirmed his suspicion: the H5N1 subtype of the virus was detected in the dead animals
The affected stocks are being liquidated. In accordance with the regulations, the experts designated a 3 km radius protection zone around the affected farm and defined a 10 km radius surveillance (observation) zone. An epidemiological investigation is underway to reveal the causes of the appearance of the disease. The above case also clearly shows that scattered cases of bird flu continue to occur in the country. The animal health authority is expected to dissolve a significant part of the currently existing surveillance districts in our country during this week, but this does not mean that discipline can be relaxed. Nébih reiterates the attention of livestock keepers that all necessary measures must still be taken in order to protect poultry flocks from disease. The common interest of the sector and the authority is to eradicate the disease as soon as possible and to regain immunity from bird flu.
