The Prime Minister of Hungary proposed the appointment of Csaba Balázs Rigó for another six-year term, after the President of the GVH was heard by the Economic Committee of the Parliament at its meeting on 3 March 2026, at the initiative of the Prime Minister, and his appointment as President was supported for another six-year term.
Based on all of this, President of the Republic Tamás Sulyok appointed Csaba Balázs Rigó as President of the GVH for another six-year term with effect from 15 April 2026. The President of the GVH took the oath of office and received his appointment document on 17 March 2026 at the Sándor Palace. The ceremony was attended by László Bak, Deputy President; András Tóth, Deputy President, President of the Competition Council; and members of the GVH Competition Council.
During the first term of the President of the GVH, the national competition authority closed 234 competition supervision proceedings, within the framework of which the GVH Competition Council imposed competition supervision fines of more than 40 billion forints. Taking into account the broader public interest, the Competition Council granted a total of 21 billion forints in fine reductions to the affected undertakings, and as a result of the proceedings, more than 10 billion forints in direct consumer compensation was paid to Hungarian consumers by the undertakings subject to the proceedings. Csaba Balázs Rigó pointed out that “as a result of the six years of GVH’s activities, more than 104 billion forints of demonstrated social benefit has been generated on the consumers’ side. This in itself is more than twice the amount of the GVH’s annual budgets” – the President highlighted.
