The number of Michelin-star restaurants keeps growing in Germany
he new Guide Michelin for Berlin and Germany for 2014 was released today and awards the upcoming German restaurant scene with another record number of stars. Berlin gets an astonishing four new stars with three new star establishments and another two star restaurant but also loses one star.
The 2014 edition of the German Guide Rouge has confirmed what everybody was expecting: Germany’s restaurant scene is developing rapidly and the number of restaurants worth a journey is growing by the year. The guide awards an total number of 18 new stars to German restaurants, which means that Germany is moving closer to France again.
And Berlin stands out in the new guide: An staggering number of 4 new stars are awarded to Berlin restaurants and of those three are newcomers. “Les Solistes” in the newly established Waldorf Astoria hotel gets a star in its first year which is a nice proof of concept for famous icon Pierre Gagnaire who with head chef Roel Lintermann is the brain behind Les Solistes. Not really a surprise though, the reviews have been consistently good. What really stands out is that the Pauly Saal is awarded a star, that’s an impressive achievement by Stephan Landwehr und Boris Radczun who are the creators behind celeb hangout Grill Royal and a proof that their installment of new head chef Michael Höpfl was a spot on choice. The third new star is awarded to “5 – cinco by Paco Pérez”, the restaurant in newly opened hotel Das Stue and the first project by famous catalan chef Paco Pérez outside of Spain. Also remarkable is the second star for Michael Kempf’s institution FACIL, which means that Berlin now can boast with a total number of five two-star restaurants. Interestingly enough I haven’t been to any of these institution, something I definitely will have to catch up on now.
Berlin is also losing one star in this edition as Michael Hoffmann closed down Margaux earlier this year.
