Another wage increase at the British Lidl
The British Lidl announced that it will increase its workers’ wages by more than 3% in June, which will be the third such measure in the past year. The British branch of the discount chain informed the public on Friday that it would raise the hourly wage for workers in the country from £12.40 to £12.50, and in London from £13.55 to £13.65.
This wage increase is also particularly important for Hungarians living in England, who work in significant numbers in the company’s supermarkets. The Bank of England, as a major employer, also noticed the increase, warning that it could also have inflationary effects. Other large companies have taken similar steps to raise wages; for example, John Lewis and the Co-op announced a 10% increase in March in response to an hourly increase in the national living wage set by the government – writes Reuters.
