Farmers may receive more state land
The next phase of the sale of state lands under 10 hectares has begun. This time, offers can be made mainly for forest, orchard, vineyard and wooded areas, as well as land with mixed cultivation.
The National Land Center offers more than 6,700 plots of land for sale across the country, in a total of almost two thousand settlements. The initiative covers around 7,700 hectares. During the 2022 sale, more than half of the areas have not been announced so far, and you can also bid again for those lands that were already announced in the previous phases, but have not yet found a buyer. Lists of land to be sold and sales announcements are available on the website of the National Land Center (https://nfk.gov.hu/). Purchase offers can be made on the Electronic Tender System for 30 days from the date of announcement, until December 7, 2022. The interface is directly accessible from the NFK website and from the following electronic site: https://epr.nfk.gov.hu/. Anyone who meets the conditions set out in the law can bid for these areas. It is important that persons who do not qualify as farmers can also buy land up to a size limit of one hectare, valid purchase offers for areas between one and ten hectares or ownership shares can only be received from persons listed in the farmer register. In order to provide local information to those interested, the local governments of the settlements affected by the areas for sale also publish the data on the land available for purchase on their websites.
As with the previous land sale programs, the estates offered for sale also serve to clean up the state’s land portfolio
This is because the state sells properties that are typically small in size and wedged between privately owned lands. These areas mostly offer a buying opportunity to the owners of neighboring properties and, in the case of undivided jointly owned property shares, to co-owners. The coronavirus epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war highlighted that food supply is a strategic issue, one of the bases of which is agricultural land. Despite the challenges facing Hungarian agriculture, thanks to the dedicated work and diligence of farmers, fresh and healthy food is put on the tables of Hungarian families every day. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture supports the activities of the actors of the sector with all possible means, one of the basic means of which is the development of property policy measures that take into account the needs of farmers.
