New Aldi Stores in US
Supermarket chain Aldi is planning to increase its US store numbers by up to 100 during 2008.
The aggressive expansion proposals could see the German discount chain enlarge its volume of outlets by over 11 pct to 1,000 by the end of 2008.
A company spokeswoman is quoted as saying all additions will be newly built and there were no plans to buy existing chains and rebrand them. Aldi was ranked 24th among US grocery companies with a turnover of US$5.3 billion, according to a Supermarket News report released this year.
