The Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority has been expanded with a new member

The Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has been expanded with a new member and the mandate of one member has been extended by another six years by President of the Republic Tamás Sulyok with effect from October 1st – the competition authority informed MTI on Wednesday.

According to the announcement, based on the proposal of GVH President Csaba Balázs Rigó, the President of the Republic appointed Zoltán Nándor Ay as a member of the Competition Council. The specialist joined the competition authority in 2005: he worked as an investigator, then in the Antitrust and Cartel Office, and from the second half of 2019 he performed office manager duties.

Since 2011, Attila Kőhalmi has been the Chairman of the Board and Chief Supervisory Advisor of the Financial Arbitration Board operating under the State Supervision of Financial Organizations. He was appointed as a member of the Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority in October 2013, acting as a member of the Competition Council in all types of cases and as a rapporteur. With this appointment, the expert can begin his third six-year term.

The legally defined task of the seven-member Competition Council is to make decisions that conclude competition supervision procedures on the merits, as well as to adjudicate appeals filed against orders made during these procedures, the statement explained, adding that judicial review may be requested against the decisions of the Competition Council.
