KSH and METU prepared a new analysis of the industry
In cooperation with the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and Budapest Metropolitan University (METU), experimental statistics on industrial production based on new data sources and methods were prepared – the KSH announced to MTI.
The analysis is based on KSH and Eurostat data that no one has linked so far, and it can also be considered a novelty that it shows branches of the national economy and industries with a similar approach. Examining these is important because the weight of industry in the national economy in Hungary exceeds the EU average, the volume of industrial production has almost doubled in the last 20 years – they wrote.
Experimental statistics show, among other things, that domestic industrial production represents a greater weight than the average in Europe, but at the same time it is territorially more deconcentrated, i.e. regional inequalities are relatively moderate.
The joint experimental statistics of KSH and METU will be expanded during the fall of 2024 with the presentation of national economic branches and industries with a similar approach, such as the construction industry and the food industry.
In Hungary, industry accounted for 22 percent of the gross added value in 2023, exceeding the EU average (21 percent), and its ratio was the 8th highest among the member states. Among the national economic branches of industry, the manufacturing industry is dominant, in Hungary it represented 91 percent of the industrial added value and 20 percent of the total national economic added value, making it the most important national economic branch.
