The state secretary drew attention to the fact that the Kiskunfélegyházi Goose Festival has become an identity-forming event worthy of putting the settlement on the map. The goose and the products made from it hold their own at the international level and show the performance of the sector. He explained that 80% of waterfowl products are sold abroad, and the products made from them promote Hungarian knowledge and the work of Hungarian farmers.
Zsolt Feldman also spoke about the great challenges and difficulties the players in the sector had to deal with in the recent period
A total of 1.3 million waterfowl had to be slaughtered due to bird flu. However, the government is not leaving the farmers alone. As part of the Rural Development Program, the Ministry of Agriculture paid HUF 14 billion for farm improvements and a new animal welfare subsidy is available to reduce the burden on farmers. He emphasized that in the autumn we may also face a European Union animal welfare regulation proposal that includes innovations for those working in the waterfowl sector, whether in the fields of animal husbandry, slaughter or transport, and our task is to prepare those involved for these changes, he added.
The State Secretary also drew attention to the cooperation of the players in the sector, because this way it is easier to overcome the obstacles surrounding the sector
The Ministry of Agriculture is working on a regulation whose purpose is to share the production risk between producers and purchasers, and to make the purchase process transparent for livestock keepers. Thanks to the new regulations, a system of relations between the producer and the slaughterhouse can be formed that is based on mutual trust, and thus the farming environment will be even more predictable – emphasized Zsolt Feldman.
