New rules for ordering from webshops from 1 July 2021
The European Commission is proposing a half-year postponement of the introduction of the e-commerce VAT amendment package. Based on this, the new regulation will only come into force on 1 July 2021, instead of 1 January 2021, in order to give Member States and webshops enough time to prepare. The deferral proposal will have to be adopted even by the European Parliament and the European Council, which is expected to be a formality. This also eliminates customs duties and VAT on products ordered from America or China.
At present, neither customs duties nor VAT are payable on products ordered from outside the European Union for less than EUR 22 (approximately HUF 7,700). According to NAV, especially in the case of products ordered from China, the sender repeatedly indicates a value of less than 22 euros in the case of high-value telephones and computer equipment, thus avoiding the payment of taxes. Next year (from July 1, instead of the scheduled January 1), this loophole will close, all products, no matter how small, will be taxed. In addition, since imports of all products have to be declared, the risk of falling is increased if someone tries to trick them with a lower value.
