The Hungarian food truck scene is looking for a new market, so this year the country’s mobile restaurants are trying their luck beyond the Hungarian borders. The first destination is Slovakia, where the reception is promising – in 2025 the public will be able to meet the best of Hungarian street food at three locations. The initiative is backed by the organizers of the Food Truck Show, who closed the season with their 100th event last September.

The Food Truck Show has been bringing together quality Hungarian food trucks since 2014, and in addition to event organization, in collaboration with the Street Food Association, it also provides professional and marketing support to small entrepreneurs operating the trucks. The event has expanded with more locations every year, and since 2016, Food Truck Shows have been organized in almost every Hungarian city during the outdoor season. The foreign tour starts this year between June 6-7 at the Jazz & Wine festival in Révkomárom, where locals can try out several Hungarian food trucks.

During the event, the number of cars gathered around them increased to 150, which clearly shows the popularity of the genre. Today, most of them are also holding their own internationally, so the organizers decided to try their luck abroad with the Food Truck Show.

“They welcomed us with open arms in Slovakia, and in Révkomárom and Somorjá they were also very happy about the opportunity. We see that the local audience can not only afford to taste a dish or two, but they are also very curious about us. We have also experienced this at previous events in Komárom, where many people crossed the bridge just to have a good meal. We consider this year to be a demo year, and we are confident that, just as at home, we will succeed in taking Hungarian street food to more locations in Slovakia every year”

– said Zoltán Horváth, one of the main organizers of the Food Truck Show and president of the Hungarian Street Food Association.

In addition to market considerations, the association also expects extra motivation from Slovak locations. “Entrepreneurs rarely have to introduce themselves here, as locals have known them for years. In Slovakia, however, this culture is still emerging, so we expect new feedback and a new audience, whose interest can bring back the atmosphere we experienced a few years ago in Miskolc, Debrecen or Győr,” he added.
