JYSK installs new solar park in Poland – the Ecser center in Hungary is also becoming greener
JYSK is further expanding its renewable energy investments in Europe: the company’s largest solar park has started operations in Poland, while in Hungary, the solar power plant at the distribution center in Ecser covers more than half of its energy needs from clean sources during the summer months.
JYSK’s distribution center in Radomsk, central Poland, can cover up to 30% of its own electricity needs from renewable sources thanks to a system of nearly 4,000 panels with an output of 450 Wp each, thus supporting the company’s goals to reduce CO₂ emissions. The facility, which houses JYSK’s largest solar park, is also the company’s first system to be officially registered as a renewable energy producer, and the unused excess electricity is fed back into the electricity grid.
“With this investment, we not only increase the energy independence of the distribution center, but also contribute to reducing our CO₂ emissions. We are proud that we are now expanding the number of distribution centers that actively produce renewable energy,”
– said Natalia Swoboda, Logistics Director at JYSK’s Radomsko distribution center.
Solar energy in Ecser: this is how JYSK reduces its domestic emissions
The use of renewable energy will also play a key role in JYSK’s operations in Hungary. The 1 megawatt solar power plant at the company’s distribution center in Ecser significantly contributes to the logistics center’s energy supply and to reducing JYSK’s domestic carbon emissions.
The system generates approximately 1.2 GWh of electricity annually. In the summer months, it covers approximately 55% of the distribution center’s electricity needs from renewable sources, while in the winter period it covers approximately 10%. The solar panels feed back into the grid, effectively supporting the optimization of the facility’s energy consumption.
The Ecser investment is an important element of JYSK’s sustainability efforts: the company aims to increasingly use renewable energy sources in its operations and reduce its environmental impact in Hungary as well.
Part of JYSK’s sustainability strategy
JYSK currently operates solar systems in six distribution centers, and two more – in Lelystad in the Netherlands and Almenara in Spain – will join this circle when the new logistics centers open. In addition, JYSK’s logistics system is also being further developed: the company plans to open a completely new distribution center in Italy by the end of 2027, which will support more efficient, shorter delivery routes.
The solar park in Radomsko and the solar power plant in Ecser both clearly demonstrate JYSK’s consistent commitment to renewable energy investments, in line with the company’s sustainability strategy.
The company presented its sustainability strategy “A great offer for generations” in October 2024, while its climate goals were also approved by the internationally recognized Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Among other things, JYSK has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50.4% by the financial year 2032, based on the data for the financial year 2022.
