Nestlé Szerencs factory expands with new solar park
The 1.5 GW annual capacity solar park will come into operation next March at Nestlé’s Central European regional coffee and cocoa powder production and filling center, which will cover nearly 30 percent of the electricity demand of the Szerencs factory. The electricity produced in the new park would be sufficient for the annual consumption of up to 650-700 households. With the 700 million forint investment supported by the HIPA National Investment Agency, the Hungarian subsidiary is taking a significant step towards the further modernization of the Szerencs plant, which is of high international importance for Nestlé.
Hungary’s largest Swiss investor and employer is expanding its Szerencs plant with a 2.5-hectare solar park with an annual energy production of 1.5 GW. The factory, which has been using electricity from renewable sources exclusively since 2017, will use significantly less green electricity from the public power grid once the development is implemented.
The installation of solar panels in the area currently under landscaping is expected to be completed in February 2025. The solar park, which will be operational in March, will cover approximately 30 percent of the electricity demand of Nestlé’s Szerencs plant and 21 percent of the total energy demand. Based on its performance, the solar park could meet the annual electricity demand of up to 650-700 households.
“In recent years, we have made a total of 9 billion forints worth of investments in our Szerencs plant, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year,”
– said Péter Noszek, Managing Director of Nestlé Hungária.
