There are new opportunities to preserve soil moisture
There are several processes and preparations that are able to preserve soil moisture, so farmers can cultivate crops where there is no possibility to irrigate – Fazekas Sándor, Minister of Agriculture told at the How to reduce drought damage? conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
In his opening speech, the Minister underlined that every opportunity should be seized to preserve soil moisture, especially in areas where there is no water, in addition to the old methods, many new solutions are available. Combining these with more economical production, higher revenues can be achieved.
Fazekas Sándor said that the effects of climate change, extreme weather, are basically influencing the future of agriculture and the possibilities of crop production. Farmers can only be successful, if they rely on a serious professional background, which he thinks is ensured in Hungary. He noted that with the emergence of digitization an era shift has started in agriculture, modern solutions are widely spread, one of the greatest challenges of agriculture is their application. (MTI)
