A new era in home delivery: GLS introduces a collection code
The convenience and security of home delivery will be increased at the same time by the soon-to-be-introduced innovation of GLS: the logistics company will soon link the delivery of packages to a receipt code – as revealed in a video shared on social media.
The essence of the new system is that the recipient receives a unique code for their package, which they must give to the courier upon delivery. With this solution, the type of identification mechanism that we are already familiar with from the world of parcel machines will also be introduced during home delivery. The goal: greater flexibility and security for all parties involved in the delivery.
More flexible receipt, easier replacement
The introduction of the receipt code system can be particularly useful for those who cannot ensure that they are at home at the time of delivery. In such cases, recipients can simply forward the collection code to a trusted friend or family member who can collect the package for them – all without having to prove their identity or require a separate authorization.
This solution can be particularly beneficial in community centers, larger families, or busy customers who often ask others to help them collect deliveries.
Digitalization in the service of everyday life
The GLS mobile app – through which the collection code will also be available – is playing an increasingly important role in the user experience. With the app, users can track their shipments in real time, change the time or location of delivery, and will soon be able to store and share delivery codes here.
The service provider’s move fits well with the international trend that smart devices and digitalization are increasingly taking over the role of traditional administration in home delivery. The introduction of the receipt code can make receiving packages at home not only more convenient, but also safer.
There has been no official announcement from GLS yet, but the innovation is already being tested – it is expected that the new system will become more widely available in the coming weeks.
