Tesco will implement a retail crime reporting platform as part of a ten-week pilot project in Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, UK.

Starting 26 January 2026, employees at 40 Tesco stores will be able to report criminal incidents via the Auror platform, ESM Magazine reports.

The platform aims to simplify the process of reporting retail crimes and support police to solve cases more quickly, as well as identifying repeat offenders.

In addition, Tesco plans to review CCTV footage at its Tesco Security Hub in Daventry, the UK.

The retailer added that any CCTV analysis will only be conducted retrospectively after an incident has occurred and will not involve live facial recognition to monitor employees or customers.

With the number of retail crimes now surpassing 2,000 per day, according to a recent BRC Crime Survey, Tesco aims to strengthen its approach to crime prevention.

The platform, provided by global technology company Auror, is already being used by other grocery retailers, Tesco said.

The platform is supported by the W23 Global venture fund, which was initiated in April 2024.

Focus On Security

Emphasising its continued focus on security, Tesco noted that over the past four years, it has invested ‘tens of millions’ of pounds in tackling crime and improving safety.

Rachel Bennett, security director at Tesco, said, “The investments we are making in improving safety across our store network will ensure that we not only lead the way in tackling the symptoms of retail crime, but drive collaboration right across the retail sector to deter would-be criminals.”

Alongside the crime reporting platform, Tesco previously introduced body worn cameras for delivery drivers, protective screens and door entry systems, as well as expanded its mobile security officer support.
