EU’s cohesion and agricultural policies are before new challenges
The EU's common agricultural policy has a more than 60 years of history, it is one of the oldest community policy – Feldman Zsolt, Deputy Minister of State at the Ministry of Rural Development responsible for agri-management said at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s meeting organized in tasks of cohesion and agricultural policies. The main objective of the Common Agricultural Policy is to guarantee the safe and stable food supply in Europe and the protection of agriculture, which is one of the most important sectors of the economy.
Feldman Zsolt emphasized that the common agricultural policy is facing many challenges nowadays, because of the market instability, while income of farmers falls, and we have to compete with the imported resources, and the climate change also presents new risks as well.
He added that the common agricultural policy is extremely complex. In its operation, the EU seeks to find a balance of competitiveness between efficiency and sustainability. (MTI/VM Sajtóiroda, kormany.hu)
