In his welcoming speech, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy said that the government’s goal is to increase the level of processing in all sectors. This is why, as the only country in the EU, they increased the domestic co-financing rate for agricultural and rural development subsidies to 80 percent. The government views the food industry as a strategic sector, and three calls for applications have already been published for funds allocated to the food and processing industries. In the previous two calls, 947 applications have received positive decisions so far, worth more than 500 billion forints, the minister added. He highlighted that 320 large projects have received support for complex developments similar to Ceres’s investment so far, worth around 461 billion forints, and 627 smaller processors have received support of around 40 billion forints, so that they can produce higher added value, more competitive products from Hungarian raw materials. Illés Boglárka, State Secretary for Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said that the implementation of the investment worth 42.6 billion forints was supported by the Hungarian government and the European Union with a support of 4.2 billion forints. István Mikos, the company’s corporate director, previously told MTI about the investment, saying that the 14,000 square meter factory hall is being built on a seven-hectare area purchased by the company with the support of Ceres’ parent company, the Czech Penam group. The first phase of the facility will create 100 new jobs. Ceres is currently present in Győr and Miskolc, primarily producing daily products, loaves, toast breads, cakes, and products that can be incorporated into a health-conscious diet.

The company is the legal successor of the Győr- és Vidéke Sütőipari Vállalat, founded in 1953, and currently employs 200 people

According to publicly available company reports, the company’s net sales revenue in 2023 was 13 billion forints, with an after-tax profit of 1.2 billion forints. Sales revenue decreased to 12 billion forints in 2024
