The teachers and pastry students of the Budapest Economic Vocational Training Center’s Dobos C. József Vocational School set a Guinness World Record by assembling a 112-meter cake. The experiment was carried out in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of pastry chef József Dobos C. A part of the record-sized cake was donated to charity by the sponsoring Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

A documentary is being made in memory of the Hungarian pastry chef, which will also include the exciting experiment. The cake was made at several locations, and its pieces were delivered to the vocational school on the day of the event, where they began assembling the 100-meter cake, which was eventually 112 meters long, at 10:00 in the morning. The last element was put in place at 12:00, and it was then that the Guinness record was officially broken.

The previous record-breaking cake was made in 2021 at Auchan Hungary’s pastry shop. To break the record, they now set out to bake a 4,500-slice cake, with a total of 20 pastry chefs and 150 students working on it.
The huge cake was made using 3,500 eggs, 50 kg of flour, 60 kg of sugar, 62.5 kg of butter, 7.5 kg of cocoa butter, 62.5 kg of dark chocolate and 7.5 kg of cocoa powder.

Part of the cost of the cake’s ingredients was covered by donations. The Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) continuously supports the activities of Budapest’s vocational training institutions, as these training places provide the highly qualified professionals of the future. The BKIK supported the experiment with a 10-meter cake, which was donated to the Bokréta Residential Home, Children’s Home Center and Primary School after the event.

“It is difficult to imagine a greater inspiration for a student to participate in a Guinness World Record attempt in their profession. We are pleased that schools are finding creative ways to keep their students enthusiastic about vocational training”

– summarized the significance of the initiative by Dr. Viktória Bódi, Acting Secretary General of the BKIK.
