A new function is added to the SZÉP card: it can also be used for home renovation
According to the government’s announcement on Wednesday, the SZÉP card will be expanded with a new possibility of use: 50% of the amounts here will soon be used for home renovation purposes. The measure is part of the new economic policy action plan, which aimed to increase the purchasing power of incomes, improve housing conditions, and support small and medium-sized enterprises.
Previously, the SZÉP card could only be used for tourism, hospitality and leisure activities, so the change brings a significant novelty to the population. The purpose of the decision is to help families improve their home environment, contributing to the improvement of living conditions.
Support for housing and a focus on the work-based economy
The new function of the SZÉP card is part of a broader economic action plan, one of the main pillars of which is the provision of affordable housing. To this end, several new measures will be implemented. An example is that the discounted 5% VAT on the sale of apartments will be maintained until the end of 2026. In addition, they support the use of voluntary pension savings for housing purposes, and further investigations into AirBnB regulation are also being conducted.
Based on government announcements, in addition to the new function of the SZÉP card, several measures are aimed at improving the population’s financial situation and housing conditions. The purpose of the planned programs is to support families and strengthen the work-based economy, which remains one of the cornerstones of Hungarian economic policy.
