– Why MVI and why now? – I think that the guild worked well under the leadership of Tamás Háber too but the ‘blood transfusion’ definitely did justice to MVI. The reason why I decided to take up a position in the management is that I think MVI has the best chance to involve the guild in strategic decision making.
• – What does this mean if we are not speaking in general terms? – MNGSZ is slowly losing ground and credibility, especially now that Béla Prohászka resigned. At least MGE is trying to do something and they produce results. For instance they contributed to shaping a generation of chefs (those between the ages of 25 and 35) that is committed to changes and represents a 21st-century set of values.
• – What are your priorities in representing the profession’s interests? – Primarily I would like to be active in the domains of education, training and master programmes. It is also very important to deal with the issuing of business licences – only those should be allowed to open a restaurant, who have a professional chef, manager, etc. as co-owner.
• – What is our opinion about competitions? – They play an important role in improving skills and I am glad that the professional level of Tradition and Evolution gets better and better every year. Not only participants but also their employers profit from this.
• – Recently you replaced Vilmos Kreil in the presidential seat of the Bocuse d’Or Academy. Is there anything you would like to say about this? – Kreil is not the kind of person who is able to persuade people to support him; what is more, he was unable to produce results as the president of the academy. He resigned and in a letter he wrote that he would be glad if I would take over his position.
