New year, new and old challenges in logistics: The sector could feel like it’s on a roller coaster in 2025
There have been a significant number of economic trials in recent years, both domestically and internationally. 2025 is not expected to be the easiest year in every respect, at least in logistics, many challenges can be expected. There may be trials in the labor market, price increases of over 20% in parcel delivery, but geopolitics may also cause surprises.
In recent years, it has been widely heard that there is a labor shortage in many sectors. This year may be a turning point, at least if we take the logistics sector as a basis. Fewer open positions can be expected in the sector in the short term, but in return, those who already work in this field can count on a significant salary increase. In many cases, real wage increases of between 5-10% are expected, which in practice may even cover a real wage increase of over 10%. This may also impose additional burdens on logistics companies in the short term.
“Due to economic and other challenges, there are expected to be somewhat fewer logistics-related job opportunities in 2025 based on current information. However, this is likely to be the case for a short period of time, but in the longer term there is still significant potential for someone with advanced logistics knowledge,”
– said Dr. Zoltán Doór, President of the Hungarian Logistics Association (MLE).
In 2025, those who want to work in a new place but in this field may face challenges. The sector will no longer necessarily welcome everyone with open arms, as the number of vacant positions is expected to decrease, but those looking for this type of work may have to go through much greater screening. However, according to the long-term trend, there are still substantial opportunities in this field. That is why anyone who is thinking about a long-term logistics career may want to start logistics training and acquiring logistics knowledge in 2025, as quality such education can typically take 1 year or even longer these days. Later, a workforce that is not only experienced but also has sufficient professional skills may become much more valuable, as the combination of work experience and lexical knowledge can provide truly competitive market knowledge.
