The head of the ministry emphasized that, in the last 30 years, Hungarian winemakers have shown how to adapt to changes and how to achieve success and maintain it with effective work, diligence and perseverance.
At the event, the minister announced that the wine region’s protection of origin system will be modified in response to the requests of local farmers and the mountain community
Instead of the names Somló and Nagy-Somló, only the name Somló remains in use. At the same time, higher-quality wines from organic farming are sold to consumers under the name Somló Superior, he explained. István Nagy said that cooperation is essential for the success of the Hungarian wine industry. Producers, winemakers, mountain communities, mountain judges, decision-makers, government actors must find solutions to many issues together. These include automation that can replace labor, adaptation to changing climatic conditions, the issue of disproportionate environmental protection EU regulations that make production more difficult, higher value wine sales on export markets, improving the relationship between winegrowers and wine buyers as well as the profitability of the sector, following consumption trends and wine consumption addressing young people – listed the minister.
István Nagy pointed out that HUF 1.8 billion was allocated from the Rural Development Program to support the promotion of Hungarian wine
In addition, administrative burdens in the grape and wine sector were reduced. This year, if necessary and if the farmers request it, the government will even decide on an intervention measure in relation to distillation, the head of the agricultural ministry pointed out.
