Mercadona To Open New Store In Portugal In June
Mercadona has announced plans to resume expansion in Portugal with the launch of a new store in Aveiro on 16 June.
The retailer had initially planned to open its eleventh store in the country on 24 March, but it was rescheduled due to the COVID-19 emergency measures introduced by the Portuguese government.
In a statement, Mercadona said it is ‘fully prepared to resume its expansion plan and ensure the opening of the ten stores planned for 2020’ in the districts of Aveiro, Porto and Viana do Castelo.
The Aveiro outlet will implement all the hygiene and safety conditions imposed by the Government, such as disinfection and cleaning of the stores, maintenance of safety distances and controlled occupancy, use of masks, goggles, gloves and disinfectant gel for all employees, as well as acrylic protections at the checkout.
