Prosecutor’s Office: an online store deceived consumers with false portraits and customer reviews
An online store deceived consumers with fake facial images and customer reviews, the Pest County Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Wednesday.
The online store, which was inspected by the prosecutor’s office, published customer reviews on its website, in which customers reported that after taking the product for a certain period of time, their illness improved or they became symptom-free.
Among the photos included in the reviews was one that was actually a picture of a foreign journalist, and there were also some that appeared on more than a hundred pages on the Internet, under various foreign names – the prosecutor’s office statement states.
According to the law, publishing false consumer reviews or recommendations in order to promote products is considered an unfair commercial practice against consumers.
It was also found that the product was offered on the website with claims that it was suitable for treating various diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, allergies, asthma, respiratory diseases, cataracts and cancer.
The compliance of such claims with the law is particularly important, since consumers who are sick or afraid of diseases are more vulnerable and more easily influenced precisely because of the threat to their health or the feeling of it, they said.
