Prosecutor’s Office: Investigation launched against a beverage manufacturer due to poor quality product

According to the statement, in order to protect human health, the laws strictly regulate the ingredients that foods can contain, and this is also the case with fruit juices.

Orange juice made from concentrate must be made from 100 percent orange juice (concentrate, water), if this is not the case and consumers are deceived, there will be legal consequences.

Since The product labeled “orange juice concentrate” must be made from 100 percent orange juice and not other fruit juice, and it was raised that the fruit juice distributed nationwide does not comply with the relevant regulations.

A laboratory test was needed to verify this, so the prosecutor’s office notified the competent authority in order to analyze the samples as soon as possible.

The food chain supervision authority investigation ordered as a result of this determined, based on the product samples, that the content of certain substances in the fruit juice significantly exceeded the amount naturally occurring in citrus fruits, including orange juices.

However, based on the list of ingredients on its product sheet (water, orange juice from 100 percent concentrate), the tested orange juice could not have contained any other added ingredients.

Due to the violation, the authority ordered the withdrawal of the affected products from the market and imposed a fine of more than 28 million forints.

Due to the violations, an investigation was also launched into the case at the initiative of the Pest County Prosecutor’s Office, acting within the scope of public interest protection, for the crime of placing a poor-quality product on the market, the statement says.
