Does Ryanair plan holiday packages? – Michael O’Leary would review the strategic direction
Although Ryanair has so far focused exclusively on short-haul air travel, management has now become more open to introducing holiday packages – flights, transfers and accommodation – but only if the airline achieves significant growth.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary is reviewing his previous strategy that the airline would not enter the package holiday market. The new approach will be determined by Ryanair’s future plans. For the first time, the company wants to expand its aircraft fleet with the 350 Boeing planes ordered previously, but not yet delivered, which would enable dynamic traffic growth. According to O’Leary, the introduction of the packages would only be on the agenda if it would not overburden the company and reduce the yield.
British rivals easyJet and Jet2 are already successfully profiting from package holidays, particularly in popular holiday destinations such as the Canary Islands or Greece. For now, however, Ryanair is waiting to maintain its focus on aviation and avoid the potential complications that would come with the introduction of a new business.
