Cucumber prices: Rising prices in Europe
Cucumber prices have risen significantly on European wholesale markets in recent weeks. According to a report by FruitVeB, by mid-November, the price of imported cucumbers on Polish wholesale markets had risen by 8-12 zlotys (755-1130 forints) per kilogram. This is a 45% increase compared to the previous year and 60% higher than the five-year average.
The main reason for the price increase is the rains and floods that hit the Iberian Peninsula, which delayed shipments to Spain. Experts say this situation is temporary, as there are not enough quantities coming from other regions to have a lasting impact on prices. Cucumber prices are already falling on the Spanish market, which gives hope for a normalization of prices.
At the Budapest Wholesale Market, the price per kilogram of domestic, Class I snake cucumbers was between 650-750 forints at the beginning of November, with a slight increase.
