Tourism – contrary tendencies in Pest County and in the capital
In the first quarter of 2009 the tendencies in Budapest were less prosperous while in Pest County tendencies were better than the national average.
According to the most recent report of KSH in the first 3 months of the year, 378 thousand guests were staying at hotels in Budapest, which is a 20 percent decline compared to the same period of 2008. Nationally, the decrease was 14 percent. The 23 percent decrease of foreign guests made a big impact on tourism because they gave the 80 percent of the traffic. The number of domestic tourists decreased by only 5.9 percent. In Pest County, there is a more favorable situation: In January-March of 2009 there was only a 1.3 percent decline, comparing to the first quarter of 2008.
