Tourist agency: the weekend brought strong traffic and income both nationally and at Lake Balaton
August 11-13. the number of guest nights exceeded the previous weekend by 9 percent, and the traffic in these days also exceeded the data of a year earlier based on the data of the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) informed MTI on Thursday.
It was announced that around 400,000 tourists spent almost 700,000 guest nights in Hungarian accommodation, more than half of the travelers were domestic visitors. The number of domestic and foreign tourists vacationing at Lake Balaton also increased compared to the previous weekend. Together with the increased guest traffic, the revenues of the hotels rose by 9 percent to 12 billion forints, and those of catering businesses by 12 percent to 22 billion forints compared to a week earlier.
During the weekend, 57 percent of the national guest traffic was accounted for by domestic travelers; August 11-13 nationwide, 5 percent more domestic guest nights were registered at hotels compared to the previous weekend, almost the same as at this time last year. Most of them came to the countryside from Budapest and Pest County.
The MTÜ announced that foreign guest traffic also performed well: international tourists spent 4 percent more guest nights in accommodations compared to the same weekend last year, and 16 percent more compared to the previous weekend. Most of them came from Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Romania.
