Tourism agency: the number of New Year’s Eve reservations has increased, most of them for at least 2 nights
For the last weekend of the year, 11 percent more pre-bookings have already been received than in the same period last year, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) told MTI on Thursday.
According to the National Tourist Information Center, travelers plan to spend 207,000 of the more than 365,000 guest nights in the countryside and 158,000 in Budapest. Compared to last year, there were 14 percent more reservations for the last days of the year in the capital. Among the rural destinations, most people choose Lake Balaton or Mátra-Bükk.
The most popular accommodations this time are hotels, in which the number of pre-bookings increased by about 10 percent compared to 2022. Among those who want to combine New Year’s Eve with a trip, 2-night reservations for 2 people are the most typical – they wrote.
It is also clear from the NTAK data that 72 percent of those coming from abroad enter the New Year relaxing in Budapest. Most of them are expected to come from Italy, Spain and Germany, but many tourists from France and the United Kingdom will also celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Hungarian capital, it was announced.
Accommodations outside the capital can expect a 12 percent higher domestic accommodation turnover overall compared to the same period in 2022. Reservations by international guests increased even more, by 13 percent. 77 percent of the pre-booked guest nights in the countryside, a total of 160,000 nights, were booked by domestic travelers, and 47,000 guest nights were related to foreign guests, MTÜ wrote.
