Campari surpasses Cinzano and Frattini
Italy’s Campari Group is selling two of its well-known brands, Cinzano vermouth and Frattini grappa, to its domestic rival Caffo Group 1915 for 100 million euros, the company said on Thursday.
Campari acquired Cinzano in 1999 and Frattini in 2014, but under new CEO Simon Hunt, the company is now carrying out a portfolio clean-up. The decision aims to focus the company’s commercial and marketing activities on its core brands.
Although Cinzano is mainly known as vermouth and Frattini as grappa, both brands also offer sparkling wines. The two product lines accounted for just 2 percent of Campari’s sales last year, worth around 75 million euros. The transaction is scheduled to close in 2025, and was facilitated by Mediobanca.
