Knowledge-based responses to challenges: Syngenta supports farmers with complex solutions
Farmers are working under constantly changing economic and environmental conditions. The effects of climate change are becoming more pronounced, while previously proven solutions are often no longer providing adequate answers. Syngenta aims to be a stable professional partner in this search for a way forward: at the company’s season opening events, it presented the solutions and opportunities that help producers achieve successful farming.
Complex farming is the new principle
The impact of climate change is increasingly being felt, and as a result, previously proven solutions no longer work as they used to. As a major player in the domestic agricultural market, Syngenta is helping producers in this search not only by breeding better and more resistant hybrids, developing effective plant protection products, but also by continuously refining production technology and developing digital agrotechnical solutions. According to the company, in 2026, in addition to hybrid selection, correct agrotechnics and nutrient supply will be the most important tasks, because now much more complex, more attentive farming is needed to achieve success and profitable production.
“Every grain counts” in the cultivation of cereals
Several field trials launched in the company’s “Every grain counts” cereal program have proven that every correctly chosen technological step has a positive effect on the yield. Experts and producers examined the combined effect of the biological and chemical products recommended by Syngenta on quality parameters across farm sizes. On 60% of the plots examined, a quality category step was achieved through the technological recommendations. A very important part of this program was the inclusion of our digital applications in the process.
According to Syngenta, in the case of cereals, it is important to define the cultivation goal from the beginning, and the composition of the technology should also be subordinated to this. It is essential that each element has its added value in terms of the final result, whether it is biological or chemical solutions, which in many cases help to save the crop under stressful conditions.
Based on knowledge: the “6 ton program” on the scale
Syngenta’s 6 ton sunflower program has been offering producers an innovative, knowledge-based approach for years to increase average yields, to accurately understand local conditions and to make decisions tailored to them. The main finding of the 6 ton program is that in order to improve profitability, it is necessary to know the characteristics of the area as much as possible, to select the hybrid for this and to select the agrotechnology based on this with these two in mind. The key to profitability is to keep the plant at its optimum in each of the seven steps (technological elements) of the “6 ton program”, since even a single missing element can directly jeopardize profit. The practical results clearly demonstrate that the average yields of participating farms following the principles of the program significantly exceed the county and national averages, even in challenging years.
As stated: Syngenta’s market-leading sunflower portfolio is constantly expanding with new, modern hybrids, among which the new A.I.R. technology provides a flexible and profitable solution. This allows producers to adapt the weed control strategy in stand management to the actual weed conditions, while genetics and technology reinforce each other to contribute to more stable yield results. The new A.I.R. hybrids, including SY Corsica AR, SY Fabian AR and the first high-oleic acid hybrid, SY Capricio AR, carry the three great advantages of A.I.R.: flexibility, safety and profitability.
Field-specific decisions to restore corn profitability
The profitability of corn has been unfavourable at the national level in recent times, as almost every region has been affected by the difficulties to some extent. The company’s experts have compiled a practical guide, one of the most important pillars of which is the field-specific hybrid recommendation. For this, precise knowledge of local conditions is essential, including the growing conditions, the applied agrotechnics, and the specific properties of each hybrid, which are both decisive for success.
The company’s corn portfolio offers several hybrids with outstanding properties: these include SY Electron and SY Evident, the latter being the winner of the Hungarian Corn Club’s crop competition last year. In the NÉBIH 2024 trials, the FAO400 standard
