Pretenders: these four technologies will compete with artificial intelligence in 2024
Quantum technology, new semiconductors, cobalt-free batteries, space technology – these are the areas that, starting this year, will play an increasingly important role in addressing the most important challenges facing our economies, communities and ecosystems.
In 2023, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has become the focus of public and business thinking worldwide, reinforcing expectations that the technology will be able to drive development in both business and society. However, other key technologies have already reached the threshold of maturity or breakthrough, according to Capgemini’s TechnoVision 2024 publication.
Generative AI exploded into global technological and business thinking at the end of 2022 – 2023. MI will certainly still be able to maintain interest. At the same time, there is a growing need for more efficient models designed for small tasks. They will also be able to run on machines with limited capacities and lower energy requirements, for example on edge networks or in smaller enterprise architectures. In the longer term, this means that we create interconnected networks of models designed and fine-tuned for specific tasks, and thus we can create generative ecosystems consisting of several models.
