Trends in logistics: micro fulfillment centers, IoT, 5G and integrated, automated solutions
The provisions caused by the corona virus epidemic accelerated the transition to online shopping, thereby changing shopping habits.
The growth of online sales has resulted in an increase in intralogistics and warehouse operations. From an international and domestic point of view, more and more companies realize that the key to their success lies in the optimization of internal production and distribution processes, i.e. intralogistics, and its automation. But what challenges does the logistics industry face and what trends can be expected? QLM market overview.
While at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries only one-tenth of the world’s population lived in cities, today this proportion already exceeds fifty percent – while the population has already grown to 8 billion. According to estimates, by 2050 more than two-thirds of the population will be urban dwellers. This is also why it is worthwhile to build distribution points and warehouses, and to build the logistics infrastructure in areas close to settlements with a larger population, close to consumers. The strategic location partly provides competitive delivery times, partly thanks to warehouses close to customers, transport costs can be significantly reduced, especially with persistently high fuel prices.
