The minister indicated that he reported to the government at the government meeting on Wednesday about the situation caused by foot-and-mouth disease. The measures of the Veterinary Operational Corps and the veterinary authority are still taking place on the four infected farms, in their protection zone and there are also targeted measures nationwide. Animal farms are being examined and sampled throughout the country, and no new infections have been found so far – István Nagy announced.
The infected cattle farms in Darnózseli and Dunakiliti are currently being liquidated
3,500 cattle from these two farms must be killed and buried according to the strict protocol set by the authorities – he explained. He added that the operational team has ordered extraordinary work for this, which will take days anyway. The Minister of Agriculture stressed that they are confident that they will be able to complete this within a few days. The burial of the animals is taking place under strict official supervision at the Bábolna slaughterhouse, and the areas are also being guarded.
István Nagy thanked the animal health experts, the police, the soldiers, and everyone involved in the protection for their work in the video
The authorities are doing their job 24 hours a day, but it is also important to know that protection is not only the responsibility of the authorities, the responsibility of the animal keepers is also enormous – he explained. The minister asked pet owners to monitor their animals, follow the rules and report any suspicious behavior immediately, in accordance with the protocol. “I ask for everyone’s cooperation, because only by following the rules and cooperating can we protect our healthy animals from this contagious, horrible virus,” István Nagy said in the video.
