Germany remains the main agricultural trade partner
Hungary’s agricultural foreign trade was also concentrated and strongly Europe-centric in the period under review: 95 percent of exports were made with European countries. Asia’s share was 3.1 percent, America’s was 1.1 percent, and Africa and Australia’s share did not even reach 1 percent. Of course, the internal market of the European Union is absolutely decisive, accounting for 83.5 percent of agricultural foreign trade exports and 92.4 percent of the import value in the first nine months of 2024.
The value of products exported to EU member states increased by 3.6 percent, the value of imports by 2.9 percent, and the balance of EUR 1,960 million was 6.3 percent more than in the base period. The most important export and import partners are almost the same, so the largest agricultural foreign trade turnover in the first three quarters of 2024 was also with Germany. In descending order of agricultural export value, other important partners were Italy, Romania, Austria, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The share of the listed countries was close to 72.7 percent of total agricultural exports. The main suppliers of agricultural products are almost the same as the export markets, which provided 81.5 percent of imports.
