According to the information provided by the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, African swine fever (ASF) has re-emerged on 3 farms in eastern Croatia, near the settlements of Gradiste, Stitar and Komletinci. The National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) draws the attention of pig farmers to the need to pay increased attention to the protection of domestic pig herds during the period of intensive summer-autumn agricultural work.

So far in 2025, the presence of the virus has been detected in 19 wild boars killed in Eastern Slavonia, which proves that the virus is continuously present in parts of Croatia that have previously been affected by the disease. Thus, the risk of the disease appearing in the southern border region of Hungary still exists, as there is the possibility of contact with wild boar infected with ASP, even indirectly, and agricultural areas and products derived from them can pose a serious threat to domestic pigs.

It is important to only buy pigs with appropriate certificates and from places that comply with the law

The thematic page of Nébih helps farmers to get up-to-date information on the proper origin of Croatian live pigs and pig products, as well as on the situation of restricted areas in Croatia. Nébih draws the attention of pig farmers in border counties to the fact that, due to the increasing epidemic risk, the priority disease control measures that have been mandatory only in infected areas should also be observed in medium-risk counties. They can get help with this from the Good Pig Farming
