Still double digit expansion – in terms of value
Retail sales of table margarine were up by 16 percent in the April 2008-March 2009 period, compared to the preceding year, with total sales exceeding HUF 14 billion. Average price was up by 12 percent in the same period. Table and cooking margarine together are one of the top 20 categories monitored by Nielsen. Modern store types account for two-thirds of table margarine sales, with both the 401-2,500 and 2 500+ square meter segments producing 1 percent growth in terms of market share. The market share of private labels continued to increase in the above period, reaching 30 percent in February 2009. The respective market shares of cooking margarine and table margarine remained stable at one third to two thirds.
